Dog Update: September/October

It's been a busy couple of months for dogs in Madrid, but I'm pleased to bring you some of the highlights. Since my "Dog Update" posts are so popular, I decided to take a few questions from my fans, in a new section that I like to call "Steveblog (R) Dog Fan Bark Off (tm)". Let's get started.

Tim from Texarkana writes: Dear Steve, isn't it kind of creepy for you to be taking pictures of strangers' dogs? I think it's kind of creepy.
Steve: Look Tim, I don't really like the tone you're taking with your question here. I invented "Steveblog (R) Dog Fan Bark Off (tm)" as a way to connect with fellow dog lovers, not to receive abuse in the form of baseless libel. You're banned Tim. You had a good thing here, but you messed up and now you're out of here forever.

Leslie from Monroe writes: I gotta agree with Tim, this is pretty weird. Also, your obsession with dogs seems very unhealthy. Perhaps you should see a specialist.
Steve: Thanks for the thoughtful comments, Leslie. My reply comes in the form of two words: PERMA BANNED

Angel from City of Industry writes: Steve, do you even own a dog?
Steve: Unbelievable, I tried to start something wonderful here, but once again the internet trolls have crawled out of their putrid and vile hovels and turned it into ash in the mouth of dog lovers everywhere. I'm left with no choice but to cancel "Steveblog (R) Dog Fan Bark Off (tm)". I tried to be civil, but apparently the world isn't ready for the Bark Off.

Well, let's put that minor kerfuffle behind us and go to the dog pictures.

This basset hound was quite alarmed by this odd street performer. It's owner keep moving the dog closer, but the hound reacted in the only reasonable way: with distrust and alarm.

In Madrid, people seem very comfortable leaving their dogs off lease. While this seems very odd (and more than a little scary; what if the dog runs into traffic!!) to me, it also seems like the dogs are exceptionally well trained and never wander far from their owners. Still, it is very common to be walking along and encounter a dog that seems to be walking itself.

Dogs are pretty fashionable here.

  2. I love fashionable dogs, but I am so worried that they are not on leashes, Bella is not well behaved enough for such classy behavior!

    1. It really worries me that the dogs are going to be hurt, but it does make for a lot of wonderful moments where a dog will just approach me out of the blue.

  3. ^Blasphemy! Bella an I have had many classy, leash-less walks! They just occur at 4am while the haters and naysayers are all asleep.
